We took the pumpkin outside today (since it’s Halloween, after all!) and I took a few more photos of it. The Arizona sun is providing its own brand of glare, but at least it’s not fluorescent this time. Enjoy!

Another shirt design. this time with vultures! This week’s shirt.Woot derby theme is “Flight”. When looking up some ideas for a design based around Icarus, I learned about the story of Jatayu and Sampaati, which inspired the image.
According to Wikipedia:
“In the Hindu epic Ramanaya, the demi-god Jatayu and his brother Sampaati, who had the forms of vultures, used to compete as to who could fly higher. On one such instance Jatayu flew so high that he was about to get seared by sun’s flames. Sampaati saved his brother by spreading his own wings and thus shielding Jatayu from the hot flames.
In the process, Sampaati himself got injured and lost his wings. Luckier than Icarus, he did not die a painful death, but had to live wingless for the rest of his life.”

I painted this last night. Was hoping to get a better photo of it today with the sun out, but the sky was mostly overcast…

Contest entry! I tried experimenting with my process in illustrator which meant I spent way more time on this than I originally planned, but I think it looks alright, so that makes up for it, right?

As a bonus, here’s the sketch, since I really like how the kitty in the bottom right looks.
Today I just kind of wanted to draw a guitar. This one is from a photo by Robb Schiltz of Jinxx (whom I have drawn previously) at a Dreaming acoustic show. Jinxx is not with the Dreaming anymore, but he’s still a talented sweetie. :V
I sort of botched this one… the hand should be one or two frets lower, but I can’t count today. The photo I worked with for this one was really low contrast, low-saturated colors, and a fuller composition (which I severely cropped), so basically the opposite kind of source from the last two I’ve done. It was a bit more of a stretch to make it work, creatively. Which is good.
Not sure how long I’ll keep these photo-paints up, I’m just trying to push myself to draw and post everyday again.
Another digital painting from a DVD still, this time it’s Hideki, singer of now-defunct Siam Shade from one of their concert DVDs (not sure which, probably V7).
in real life he’s got tattoos all over this arm, but I didn’t want to fuss with them right now.

I’ve been wanting to do some paintings of Chihiro Onitsuka based on one of her concert DVDs (Nine Dirts and Snow White Flickers). The lighting and cinematography on the DVD is just fantastic… Unfortunately for a real media painting my skill level isn’t quite there, so digital paintings will have to do for the time being…
This was mostly done in opencanvas, but I tweaked the colors a tiny bit in photoshop. Everything was eyeballed from a screengrab of the DVD.

I fell
I used to do “word art” like this when I was in high school, sometimes on its own but usually as an overlay to a drawing. I was going over a paper I wrote in 2005 and this line jumped out at me, and I knew I wanted to do something with it.
I’m not really a fan of “words on a shirt” but I feel like this could work as a white text on black design…
the fonts are Dead Secretary, Darling, and Bleeding Cowboys, all of which I collected from various free font sites on the internet.
