Morning Solstice

new self-portrait wip 1

new sp wip1a

It looks a lot more like me than my previous self-portrait because I used a photo projection machine to trace my visage onto the canvas. it’s not cheating. :P
My instructor says it reminds him of a Russian/Communist propaganda poster. I was thinking mostly it’s because of the bandana, but, well… it kind of does look like one.

(that’s my palette down in the bottom there. you can see some of the colors I used today!)

and, haha, my friend Levi offers this interpretation.

owlman wip

owlman wip

mixed feelings on this one. I’ve done some more to it since taking the photo, including placing a glowing green talisman in the shape of a mouse there in his claws, and doing some detail on the hands. did you know that great horned owls have fuzzy feets?

anyway, this is the second of two homework pieces for my drawing class (the other is the Jack and Sara thing). the full title of this is actually “Monsignor L’Houwle de Monte Carlo is in Posession of the Emerald Mouse of Samarkand and so it Would be Wise of You to Do as He Says”. it’s a very overblown title for a very not impressive work. ;p

Jack and Sara Hall WIP

I’m taking a photorecord of my progress on this thing, which I’ll try to show here once it’s finished (probably a little under an hour’s worth of work left). In the meantime, here’s a preview. I’ve actually done a bit more shading on these two, but the most recent photo I took of them close-up was really blurry/had poor lighting and I’m being lazy right now. :D

it’s actually on a blue paper. whatever setting I was using on my camera automatically made it gray, that’ll be adjusted when I take the final photo as well.

you can’t see it here, but I’ll say it anyway, the perspective on the floor is an absolute atrocity :[ I knew it was wrong the whole time, but something kind of clicked in my head about halfway through it, so maybe I’ll do better next time. ;p

anyway, it’s a mix of graphite (lineart), charcoal (most of the work) and black and white conte for details/emphasis. it’ll be pretty cool when it’s finished.

Jack and Sara roughs

jack and sara roughs

I don’t usually plan out drawings like this, but I’ve been having trouble coming up with ideas for my first drawing project (“draw two pictures of anything”) and it’s probably not a bad habit to do some development/preliminaries anyway :T

so, I decided to make one of my drawings about Sara and Jack. He’s a little too small in all of them (except maybe the large one where he’s too close to the ground), and the perspective will obviously get cleaned up. I expect the final to be in charcoal or, minimally, to have charcoal accents. this’ll be the first time I use these characters in classwork, so hopefully it’ll go over well.

Sara’s dress is extra frilly (for Sara) because I was just looking up some stock photos of women in frilly dresses and ;________; so pretty.

Morning Breath

morning breath

I woke up with morning breath and this image popped into my head… haha. I think he’s gonna need a bigger toothbrush.

stanky.

A deer and a boy

breaking in a new sketchbook, more or less, trying to brainstorm ideas for a class project. it was suggested to me by a friend that I draw Calvin and Hobbes, so that’s one of the things on here, sort of. :)

a deer and a boy

I also sketched out a Deery Lou (Sanrio / Hello Kitty character) and shaded her more realistically than she appears in any of the stationery I have of her. And since I was drawing comic/cartoon characters anyway, I sketched some Satchels and Buckys from the comic Get Fuzzy as well (mostly cropped out, but there’s still a little Bucky down there). Cartoons are deceptively hard to draw.

I ♥ Deery Lou.

Cellphone

and now for something completely different…

cellphone

couldn’t decide what to draw, saw my phone sitting on my desk, decided to draw it. ta-dah. I need to do more still lifes…

Plastic Girl

Yakking blondes and yappy dogs
Painted tans and pampered hands
Hello, plastic girl

Plastic girl

eat a freaking sandwich.

Say Love

auuugh. this is fanart for a music video.

Say Love

this is the wolf guy from Mika’s Lollipop video, in case anyone missed the link when I posted it a few days ago… I can’t. stop. listening. ;_; also, he is deceptively difficult to draw.

This Body

I failed to sign this because of some resizing issues I was having. please don’t steal it anyway.

It’s still got artistic nudity.

this body final

I toned the hair back a little bit. The effect is different, but I’m happy with this anyway. I also smoothed out some of the other problems I had with the previous version.

in completely unrelated news, I can’t stop listening to this. the video is pretty cool too.
