Morning Solstice

Kamina

Kamina

HE HAS NO ARMS BECAUSE I AM LAZY, OKAY.

I also left out his tattoos. and, you know, clothes. ;______; (not that he wears much above the waist anyway)

ore wa dare da to omotte’ru?!

fffffff

Kamina is from Gurren Lagann. here’s a nice summary of the series that I found on an anime forum:
“In any other series if a character punches an enemy so hard that they break the space-time continuum, it would be stupid, but here it just makes sense.”

Smily Jack

mostly opencanvas, but I tweaked it around in paintshop pro afterwards to help visibility. it still might be a little hard if you have a dark monitor.

I’ve been working out this guy’s design for the past few days now (mostly during lectures) but I think this is more or less final. now I get to work out his personality … :D (hint: he’s probably not very nice.)

I’m not quite Mondrian yet. I’ll probably get there eventually. ;_;

but seriously, there’s a fine line between “simplicity” and “abstraction”. One can be quite appealing and the other can be alienating from an audience that on average prefers to know what they’re looking at; and also that they be looking at a thing and not, say, random colors on a canvas.

but if I should have to fall into the trap of not-really-representation, I’d like to do it gracefully. spending painstaking hours on a still-life painting makes you want to just go cut circles out of play-doh and be a kid again, really.

Class Notes 1

This is a page of notes from a lecture today about pre-Socratic philosophers.

No, really. ;_;

class notes 1

the professor talks about lions, tigers and bears a lot, so there’s a lion… and there’s a right triangle because we were talking about Pythagoras, and how numbers were more predictable than Gods, and that the number 2 wasn’t going to start destroying things angrily like Zeus might and… and… and that’s all I got. damnit.

Painting final WIP I

the semester just started, but my painting instructor already has us doing a drawing for our final painting… this still isn’t quite refined enough to turn in.

it’s inspired very loosely by The Queen and the Soldier by Suzanne Vega. it’s one of my favorite songs. D: the Queen is the androgynous forefigure and the “soldier” is the angel in the window. I’m planning to make it more stained glass-like after I get all the features in.

I’m debating making the queen’s clothing more ornate, but at the same time I’m kind of fond of the bareness of what she’s wearing already. I’ll probably be making other not-so-subtle adjustments before I get around to the final.

Demongirl

It’s not really a demon, but I don’t have a better word for it.

demongirl

there’s nothing particularly thrilling about the drawing itself, but I like the design. insect wings = :D

blah man

I’m distracted by/worried about something, so you all get this. sry.

Dragon WIP

this is on 14×17 paper, so I had to take a photograph~ sorry for the poor quality image.

I’m probably going to color this up with oil pastels, probably in the purple-red-orange color range, just for some contrast (my dorm room is mostly white and blue). The composition is based on that “golden spiral”/”golden ratio” thing, which my painting prof is all about. I feel kind of like it’s missing something, though. Like a background, probably ^^;

also debating making the little floating orbs all glowy ‘n crap. probably will just for fun.

love money thrill

I almost forgot to post this D:

the title is from a song I was listening to while drawing it…

love money thrill

after painting class today, I just felt like drawing something simple :3

Do You Understand?

You know those people who, no matter how nice or friendly they are, nothing that comes out of their mouth makes any sense? Yeah.

Understand?

(this accidentally may or may not resemble a person or people I know; it’s not really meant to resemble any specific individual, and definitely not the person who spurred this chain of thought in the first place.)
